António Fontinha nasceu em Lisboa em 1966 e viveu até 1975 no Dundo/Angola. Concluíu o primeiro ano do Curso de Teatro da Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema de Lisboa (1986/86) e trabalhou como actor em diversas produções até 1995. Três anos antes começara a desenvolver trabalho como contador de estórias no Centro Educativo da Bela Vista, ao serviço do Chapitô, o que o levou a mudar de percurso. Desde então tem contado um pouco por todo o país, enquadrado em diversos projectos e abrindo caminho aos vários contadores que se lhe seguiriam. A base do seu repertório são temas da tradição oral portuguesa e, paralelamente à actividade de narrador, conduziu campanhas de recolha de contos tradicionais, algumas delas editadas, como os Contos Populares Portugueses pela Câmara Municipal de Palmela em 1997 e os Contos Tradicionais da Região do Entre Douro e Vouga pela Associação de Municípios das Terras de Santa Maria em 2006.

António Fontinha was born in Lisbon in 1966 and lived until 1975 in Dundo/Angola. He finished the first year of the Theatre School in Lisbon (1986/86), working as an actor in several productions until 1995. Three years before that he began to work as a storyteller in the "Belavista Education Center" for "Chapitô", which led him to change his route. Thus he was the first storyteller to work professionally in Portugal and he is a reference on the national scene. Since then he has developed an ongoing work in social intervention projects in schools and libraries across the country, paving the way for several storytellers that followed. The basis of his repertoire are the subjects of Portuguese oral tradition and, in parallel with the activity of storyteller, he has been collecting traditional tales around the country, some of which had been published.
